There is no requirement to give notice so the owner may move the vehicle. If you had a notice placed on your vehicle, it was done as a courtesy ONLY.
Valid Vehicle Registration: All vehicles on the roadway are required to have current registration. Having current registration does not give you permission to park or store your vehicle at one location on a public street for more than 72 hours. This includes parking in front of your own residence!
Your registration or operating permit must be clearly visible.
If you plan to leave your vehicle in one spot for an extended period or time, you should move your vehicle to your driveway, garage, public storage or some other hard dry surface (Not your Front Yard or Lawn Area!). it is possible that you could be on vacation for a week or more and your vehicle could be tagged as abandoned. A notice could be placed, re-inspected in 3 days and towed, all before your return from your trip.
Expired Registration: Vehicles with expired or incomplete registration, including PLANNED NON-OPERATION (PNO) vehicles CANNOT be parked or stored on the street at any time. Incomplete registration includes those that are waiting for a smog test or are still paying fees.
If the registration has been expired for 6 months or more, it can be towed immediately without notice or warning! [CVC 22651(o)]
