Fatal Traffic Collision

One person was killed and three others injured in a traffic accident that occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. today. Rancho Cordova police officers responded to the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and Douglas Road in response to multiple calls regarding the collision. Traffic in the area was affected for several hours.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a passenger sedan, occupied by two adult women, was travelling eastbound on Douglas Road through the intersection. A sport-utility vehicle with two occupants was northbound on Sunrise Boulevard, and struck the passenger side of the aforementioned sedan. The impact left the SUV overturned as it came to rest after the collision. Initial indications were that the sport-utility vehicle entered the intersection against a red traffic signal.

The female passenger of the sedan sustained fatal injuries, and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of that car and the two occupants of the sport-utility vehicle were transported to area hospitals, and were expected to survive their injuries.

The investigation into this accident is being handled by the Rancho Cordova Police Department’s Motor Unit. Anyone with information pertaining to the crash is asked to contact them at (916) 875-9600.
