New Police Chief Announced

Captain Douglas Diamond has been named Police Chief of Rancho Cordova as part of the City’s contract with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department (SSD). He will also be the Commander of the Sheriff's East Division, overseeing approximately 100 sworn and non-sworn officers.  Chief Diamond will assume his new responsibilities on April 11, 2010.

The announcement was made jointly by Ted Gaebler, Rancho Cordova City Manager and Sheriff John McGinness. “The Rancho Cordova Police Department is very closely involved with our community,” stated Gaebler. “We provide specialized training for officers and, as a result, crime is significantly reduced in our city,’ he continued. “It’s a bonus to us that Capt. Diamond is a resident of Rancho Cordova.”

Capt. Diamond is a 20-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department and has served in many capacities ranging from patrol Supervisor to administrative responsibilities including a specialization in technology. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University and is working on his Masters of Public Administration from American Military University. In addition he has taken several leadership programs, including the FBI’s National Academy.

He and his wife have lived in Rancho Cordova since 1990.
