DETECTIVES ARREST SUSPECT IN HOMICIDE
AT ZINFANDEL DRIVE AND FOLSOM BOULEVARD
On November 23, 2009, at 4:12 p.m., Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Homicide detectives arrested 19-year-old Rancho Cordova resident Deandre Brooks for the murder of Juan Carlos Sanchez (21). Brooks was arrested during a vehicle stop near Folsom Boulevard and Dawes Street in Rancho Cordova. A stolen handgun was recovered during the stop. Brooks was identified as a suspect by detectives during the course of their intensive investigation.
Detectives believe on November 21, 2009, shortly after 10:00 p.m., Brooks and Sanchez became involved in an argument while aboard a light rail train. Furthermore, detectives believe they got off the train at the station located at Folsom Boulevard and Zinfandel Drive and went behind the businesses to fistfight. Detectives also believe during the fight Brooks produced a handgun and shot Sanchez. Detectives do not know what led to the original argument.
Brooks was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail and is ineligible for bail. He is being held on the charges of murder, carrying a loaded firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, receiving stolen property, and violation of probation. He is scheduled to be arraigned on November 25, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. in Department 63.
