HOMICIDE AT ZINFANDEL DRIVE
AND FOLSOM BOULEVARD
On November 21, 2009, at 10:13 p.m., officers from the Rancho Cordova Police Department responded to the report of a shooting near the light rail station, behind the Ross store, at Zinfandel Drive and Folsom Boulevard. Officers arrived and found an unidentified victim lying behind the building and suffering from at least one gunshot wound to his upper body. Paramedics arrived a short time later and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The victim appeared to be either a light-skinned Hispanic, or a white male in his early to mid 20’s.
According to witnesses waiting at the light rail station, they heard multiple gunshots and saw a group of Black male juveniles run from behind the building. A perimeter around the area was quickly established. The area within the perimeter was searched by Sheriff’s K9 units. However, they were unable to locate any suspect.
A motive for the shooting has not been established.
