Rancho Cordova Street Racing EducationThe City of Rancho Cordova and Rancho Cordova Police Department have launched an education campaign to teach young drivers about the dangers and consequences of illegal street racing and exhibitions of speed in Rancho Cordova. The Rancho Cordova City Council enforces a sweeping zero-tolerance ordinance that targets street racers and those who watch them. The aggressive ordinance doubles the state guideline of impounding the vehicles of street racers – from 30 to 60 days. Not only does this separate the criminal drivers from their vehicles for a longer period of time, it also adds significant costs to the drivers and in some cases their parents. The tough new laws also target spectators of speed contests on city streets, imposing up to a six month jail sentence and $1,000 fine for those within 200 feet – and even those who are knowingly present in advance of a speed exhibition.
