Investigations BureauThe Rancho Cordova Police Department Detective Bureau is staffed by one Detective Sergeant and four Detectives. These four Detectives investigate all crimes in Rancho Cordova consisting of:
The majority of investigations are initiated when a patrol officer is called to the scene of a crime. The patrol officer conducts an initial investigation and completes a crime report. If the officer is unable to resolve the case, it is forwarded to the RCPD Detective Bureau. The Detective Sergeant reviews the report and determines if any solvability factors exist, such as: are suspects known? Is there a suspect description? Are witnesses available? Or is there any physical evidence that could lead to the apprehension? Cases that do not contain significant solvability factors are filed until new information becomes available that would lead to suspect identification. Cases are then assigned to Detectives based on training, expertise, and caseload. When a Detective receives a case assignment, that Detective is responsible for that investigation until such time that a suspect is apprehended or all leads are exhausted. At the conclusion of an investigation, the Detective will submit the case to the Detective Sergeant for review and approval. The case is then either forwarded to the District Attorney for a complaint, or suspended until further leads are developed. |
