Patrol Operations Bureau

The Patrol Division is the "front line" of the Rancho Cordova Police Department. Uniformed patrol officers, community service officers and cadets respond to the scene of both emergency and non-emergency crimes, traffic collisions and other requests for police service, seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Patrol is comprised of three separate "shifts" covering 24 hours, below are the shift hours and watch commanders:

Day Watch, 0630- 1630 (6:30 am – 4:30 pm) Lieutenant James Giannelli is the Day Shift Watch Commander Email Day Shift Lt.

Every Rancho Cordova police officer not only patrols a beat and responds to calls for service, but is also assigned to a smaller neighborhood area. Each officer monitors crime and disorder problems in his or her assigned neighborhood, and tries to get to know the residents and neighborhood leaders.

Patrol officers perform community policing in its purest form by following the philosophy of the department's mission statement. Department personnel emphasize quick response, quality service, and mutual respect.

The Police Department staffs a comprehensive beat system designed to spread officers throughout the city and reduce response times. Officers strive for quick response to service calls and to ensure a feeling of constant availability to the public.

Quality service is measured by the ability to reduce the problem, the resourcefulness of the officer responding, and the effectiveness of the officer's actions in the long run. The goal of the department is not just to clear the call, but to eliminate the issue altogether.

The mutual respect intended is that all police actions result in an understanding that our officers hold the community's public safety in their hands with the utmost care and concern. The actions of the police in resolving public safety issues are always to be with the highest regard for the care and dignity of the people we serve, while upholding the law.

Services Provided

Patrol officers are the first responders to all emergency and most non-emergency requests for traffic enforcement, crime reports, vehicle accidents, disturbance/noise issues, suspicious persons, parking, and most problems involving public safety and community caretaking. These areas include:

• Child abuse
• Narcotics activity
• Vandalism and graffiti
• Domestic violence
• Juvenile crimes
• Theft & burglary
• Sexual assault

Quick reaction is a valuable asset in deterring crimes and harmful activities and urges its citizens to report suspicious activity and information promptly.

Community Service Officer

The Community Service Officer (CSO) is a non-sworn position in the patrol operations division that acts as a support unit for most of the non-enforcement activities in patrol. These activities include:

• Iinitial report taking on most property crimes
• Evidence collection at crime scenes
• Parking enforcement
• Clerical duties

The CSO holds primarily a field duty position and handles a variety of other duties as assigned by the patrol sergeant such as traffic control, training, towed vehicles, and property collection and release.
