At approximately 7:45 a.m. the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department Communications Center received a call regarding a suspicious package located at the Colonial Post Office near the 6000 block of 44th street in South Sacramento County. The Sheriff’s Department’s Explosives Ordnance Detail (EOD) responded along with other EOD technicians from the Sacramento Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Upon arriving and investigating, it was determined the package was indeed suspicious and additional investigative procedures were implemented.
During a collaborative effort and preliminary investigation by all involved law enforcement entities, the device was later rendered safe.
During this event, several residents of our community were displaced from their homes and several roadways were closed. Shortly after the device was rendered safe by the EOD technicians, residents were allowed to return to their homes and the roadways were re-opened.
All additional questions regarding this matter should be referred to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
