On December 20, 2018, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department asked for assistance from the media and our community with identifying additional citizens in Sacramento who had been victimized by a theft suspect. The suspect in these crimes preyed upon victims who were shopping, by distracting them and removing property from their purses.

On January 4, 2019, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Detectives assigned to the Property Crimes Bureau arrested 23-year-old Jalaeya Jones of Sacramento for her involvement in these crimes.
Detectives identified a total of eight victims in this crime series and another was a victim of attempted theft.
Jones has been booked on charges pertaining to elder abuse, theft, and unlawful use of personal identifying information (ID theft). Jones is currently in custody at the Sacramento County Jail and is being held without bail due to her charges.
These types of investigations involve hours of follow-up and investigative work. In this case specifically, detectives worked closely with loss prevention personnel from the grocery stores and shopping centers where these crimes took place. Loss prevention personnel were instrumental in bringing this investigation to a successful conclusion and the Sheriff’s Department would like to thank them for their hard work and dedication.
